Explora Summer Camp

June, July, and August 2025

Explora offers a variety of week-long summer camps that inspire excitement amongst learners of all grade levels about science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM).  At Explora, campers preK-12th get engaged and keep their brain cells buzzing by investigating STEAM topics in materials-rich, creative environments. Registration is by grade the camper most recently completed. 

Financial assistance is available for all summer programs on request. We don’t want anyone to miss out on summer camp! Contact reservations@explora.us for more information.

Explora Spring Break Camps 

Explora Summer Camps

June 2-27, July 7 - August 1, 2025

Each of these week-long, half-day camps is $170 for members/$195 for non-members.

Looking for camp all day? Enroll in morning and afternoon camp sessions. Campers staying all day will be supervised during lunchtime. 

Beforecare is available from 8 am- 9 am, and aftercare is available from 4 pm - 5:30 pm, $10 per session. Pre-register for the week or pay by the session (card only). $50 for a week of beforecare. $50 for a week of aftercare.

Jump, Run, Fly! Animals of the Chihuahua High Desert

K-1st Grades

Materials Fee only camp: $20 members/$30 non-members

Let’s explore the desert! The Chihuahuan Desert is home to many different animals. What do we need to do to take care of the desert and the life it sustains? 

Offered in Collaboration with Dual Language Education of New Mexico.
This camp is a teacher training program with Project GLAD.

Mix It Up

Get your hands in the mix as you concoct different polymers, test the stretchiness of silly putty, and gums. Compare the consistency of dough recipes, question the boundary between solids and liquids, and more. 

Mirror, Mirror

What a reflection! Experiment with the reflective properties of mirrors and other reflective surfaces. Discover symmetrical images, refraction, and so much more.

Kids Cook!

3rd-5th Grades
1pm-4pm

Let’s get cooking with Kids Cook! Cook traditional food from around the world as you learn about a variety of cultures, foods, and culinary techniques. Gain kitchen skills including tool identification and proper use, knife safety, and food safety. Come discover, learn and have fun in the kitchen. Bon appetit, it’s time to eat!

Recipes and ingredients may contain nuts, gluten, dairy or eggs.

Come learn incredible coding skills as you use code to make fun and functional systems! Play with Raspberry Pi, a computer the size of a credit card, design with Hummingbird Bit Robotics, and so much more. Code the future!

Art Redux

Let's get making! Design tracing machines, carve out potato and rubber stamps, explore spraying techniques, and use sunshine to create shadow prints.

3, 2, 1, Blast Off! You’ll also use your imagination to explore the wonders of outer space.  Be a young astronaut as you learn about planets, stars, and rockets. Build your own models and discover what makes space so amazing!

Become kitchen chemists while investigating reactions in various substances and foods. Make ice cream, experiment with household materials, and more!

Unbelievable Bubbles

Explore the power of surface tension as you try out a variety of wands, build bubble sculptures, create bubble art, and observe colors in bubbles.

What makes things move? Experiment with getting things in motion as you use air to propel cars and boats. Harness water to make water wheels turn. Explore how static electricity can make salt jump.

Have you ever wondered what makes the colors in fireworks? Discover the wonders of chemistry as you transform powders, identify mystery mixtures, grow colorful crystals, and more!

Animals and their Ecosystems

Dive into the captivating realm of ecosystems! Uncover the dynamic interactions between living and nonliving elements, witnessing the fascinating adaptations of animals to ever-changing environments. This camp is also a teacher training program.

Have you wondered what an archaeologist does? How does the environment help preserve objects? Investigate what you know about tools and their uses and make your natural pigments from plants found in the environment as you get digging!

Sustainability All Around

What does sustainability mean? Discover nature's systems of recycling and investigate the mysteries of biodegradation in this deep dive into sustainable gardening.

Glorious Mud

Glorious, glorious mud! Get your hands dirty while exploring the properties of mud and soil. Use dirt and other natural materials to design and create a variety of projects. 

Note: Children should wear clothes that can get dirty.

World Beneath Out Feet

Get ready to dig down and investigate soil to find out who and what is in it! Feel the textures of various sands, make your own sand, and investigate plants and creepy crawlies that live in the dirt.

Measure Me

K-2nd Grades

Use balance scales, measuring cups, eyedroppers and more to explore the concept of measuring. You’ll measure out the ingredients for a snack, weigh some wacky objects, find out how tall you are, and a whole lot more.

Superhero Science

Ready to become a superhero? Plan your costume, discover the science behind superhero powers, and get ready to save the day!

Explora Camp at the Anderson Abruzzo International Balloon Museum

Join Explora for a week-long camp at the Balloon Museum. The week will include STEAM-rich Explora programs and time to visit exhibits at the Balloon Museum.

Art and Science of Flight

Join Explora and the Albuquerque Balloon Museum and explore the art and science of flight! Design and launch paper and plastic bottle rockets using the laws of motion, thrust, and gravity to reach impressive heights. Then, dive into the world of ballooning where you'll discover the creativity and science behind flight. Experiment with buoyancy, lift, and design to bring your own flying creations to life!

K-Fifth Grade Week Long Farm Camp

Explora Sensory Friendly Camp

Designed for neurodivergent individuals and led by staff trained in education, speech therapy, and behavior therapy. Offered in collaboration with LSG and Associates.

Earth Shakers & Storm Makers: The Science of Natural Disasters

Volcanoes, Earthquakes, Tsunamis OH MY! In this explosive class, come and explore the science of natural disasters and dive into the fascinating phenomenon that shakes our world! 

Requirements: Campers need to be able to have independent personal skills (bathroom and feeding skills) and have communication skills (i.e. verbal, communication device/system)
