Design, Engineer, Build!

In each class, Explora educators engage children in activities that use the engineering design process to solve a problem. Whether it’s building a suspension bridge or figuring out what gears are best to use on a bike, children will have fun designing and building, perhaps without even realizing they are honing their problem-solving skills and learning engineering and physics principles! Activities change each semester.

Meets every other week for 1½ hours.
Parent or adult caregiver participation is welcome but not required.

Explora’s Camps & Programs

Explora educators develop activities with children’s developmental levels in mind. Your children will have the opportunity to learn from, and work with older and younger peers and make new friends.

Registration/Information

You can register online
Please have the following available when you register: emergency contact name and phone numbers; name of alternate adults who can pick up the child; child’s medications, dosages, and physician’s name; child’s insurance information, as well as any allergy or special needs information for your child.

Cancellation Policy

If a cancellation is received more than 5 business days before the camp, a refund will be issued for the amount minus a 15% administrative fee.
Cancellations received 5 business days or fewer before the camp will not be refunded.
Full fees will be refunded if Explora cancels a program

Animated (Sphero) Game Design

Use code, cardboard, and ingenuity to create fun, interactive experiences with an adorable robot ball.

Down in the Dirt

Saturday, September 14

Dig into the wonders of pebbles, sand, dirt and clay. Use microscopes to investigate these earth materials, and discover how each one is unique.

Stop Motion Animation

Saturday, September 28

Stop motion is a fun and creative way to practice practical mathematics, planning, and teamwork to create a creative product. What is your storyline?

3D Pens

Saturday, October 12

Use 3D pens and real architectural practices to make your way through fun and engaging engineering challenges.

Building a Monument

Saturday, October 26

Tension in the room? Put it to good use! Use your body to understand tension and other architectural forces in this constructive exploration. Discover elementary structural principles and model-building techniques as you create your own unique architectural structures.

Trebuchet Basketball

Saturday, November 9

Test your distance and accuracy to shoot some hoops using catapults and trebuchets! Who will make the first three-pointer?

Paper Making

Saturday, November 23

What is paper? What do you notice when you look at it up close? Let’s repurpose! Use recycled paper scraps to make your own “new” paper!

Looking Up Close

Saturday, December 7

Use microscopes and magnifiers to discover the fascinating world of organisms and elements among us! Explore the structures and functions of a variety of interesting features among a micro-world of bugs, plants, and rocks.
